Dachshund
Dachshunds have relatively low-maintenance grooming needs, but their requirements vary depending on their coat type. There are three main coat varieties: smooth, long-haired, and wire-haired.
Smooth-Coated Dachshunds
- Bathing: Only when necessary (every few months or if they get dirty).
- Other Needs: Regularly wipe their ears and paws to keep them clean.
Long-Haired Dachshunds
- Bathing: Every 4-6 weeks, or as needed.
Wire-Haired Dachshunds
- Bathing: Every 4-6 weeks or as needed.
- Other Needs: Trim facial hair regularly to keep them looking tidy.
The most common Dachshund skin problems include:
- Excessive itching and scratching
- Dry skin
- Rashes
- Red bumps
- Sores or Skin Lesions
- Dandruff
- Hair loss (either local or widespread)
